Scott Jensen Wants to Ban Abortion in Minnesota
Minnesota Republican candidate for governor Scott Jensen wants to ban abortion in Minnesota. He even previously said that he wants to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest.
Scott Jensen could also pass a Texas-style law that bans abortion as early as six weeks, allows strangers to collect $10,000 for reporting women who have abortions, and would put women and doctors in jail for abortions.
And now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the constitutional right to abortion, Scott Jensen is one step closer to banning abortion in Minnesota.
If Scott Jensen is elected governor, abortion access will be on the line for millions of women.
In an MPR interview, Scott Jensen committed to banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
When asked about whether or not he would try to impose new restrictions on abortion or ban it outright if Roe v. Wade was overturned, Jensen said:
Scott Jensen on MPR, 3/18/22
I would try to ban abortion…
Scott Jensen also received a 100% rating from the anti-choice organization Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL).
Scott Jensen’s running mate, Matt Birk, has also said that he wants to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest.
At a National Right to Life conference in June 2022, Matt Birk celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Birk compared safe, legal abortion to slavery and said, “women used to not be able to vote, now we let them drive.” He also said that he doesn’t believe that rape victims should get able to get abortions and said that “if a woman is unexpectedly pregnant, she could be the answer to someone’s prayer.”
In the same speech, Matt Birk promised that he and Scott Jensen would work to pass laws that ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
Abortion is essential health care. Minnesota needs leaders who will protect our reproductive freedoms, not extremists like Scott Jensen who want to take away the right to choose.
Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, it is more important than ever that we work together to stop Scott Jensen from bringing his harmful, anti-choice agenda to Minnesota.
