Wrong for Minnesota

Jeff Johnson is Too Extreme and Out of Touch with Minnesotan Values

Jeff Johnson is too extreme and out of touch with Minnesotan values – look no further than his gubernatorial endorsements from Donald Trump and far-right extremist Michele Bachmann.

Johnson would make it harder for a woman in Minnesota to access abortion care. As reported by MPR in July 2018:

Johnson said he supports more restrictions on abortion and, as governor, would sign a bill similar to the “heartbeat” proposal that passed in Iowa. That bill, one of the most restrictive abortion proposals in the country, restricts the procedure once a fetal heartbeat has been detected, at about six weeks of pregnancy, with some exceptions made in cases of rape, incest or medical emergency.

Johnson opposes ensuring that working people in Minnesota are able to earn a living wage. He voted against increasing Minnesota’s minimum wage while supporting tax giveaways for wealthy special interests.

Johnson also opposes giving LGBT Minnesotans equal rights. In 2005, he voted in favor of banning same-sex marriage.

In a 2012 Bemidji Pioneer article discussing Johnson’s opinion on the proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Minnesota, they wrote:

[Jeff Johnson] added that the proposed amendments in 2012 that would have instituted a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and established a voter ID requirement should have put forward through the legislature, not as constitutional amendments.

Minnesotans believe in treating our neighbors with dignity and respect, and creating a welcoming, inclusive state for all families. We believe that a woman should be trusted to make her own reproductive decisions. We believe that if a person works full time, they should be able to earn a living wage.

Jeff Johnson has shown that he is completely out of touch with our values. Just like Donald Trump and Michele Bachmann, he would be a disaster for Minnesota.
